Me-Me-Me-Me-MeMes!

The world of memes is a way of expressing oneself with the use of pictures. The more successful the memes execution is the more popular it will become. By a meme going viral and gaining popularity it becomes a part of the internet trend and lately has been more popular than ever. Most memes are funny imitations of actual events. Today I will choose three memes and discuss how and why they are popular, some you might have seen yourself.

One of my favorite and most popular is the college student with the nonchalant attitude. It’s popular because it relate-able to this generation and has text that seems cliche, but funny.

The office was a popular show in the early 2000, it was so popular that it’s unforgettable. One of the unforgettable characters is named Dwight and some of his saying, from the show, were so funny that memes are a sort of hilarious monument to his character.

And for the final meme I would have to say the psycho girlfriend is certainly the most popular meme out there today. This girl made a spoof/parody of the Justin beiber song if I was your boyfriend. With her humor she crafted the song if I was your girlfriend and made it funnier than ever. Her memes are dedicated to her character and clash humor with the creepy factor.

Well that’s all for this week, memes are a way of entertaining and idolizing those who have left a funny impression. What’s your favorite meme? Comment below.

Creative Confusion

So this week we were asked to pull some images, videos, and even a song from the creative commons search. These would be used for our final, but I’m a bit confused. The topic for our final is not clear to me, therefore the links I pulled were just a possible theme for our final project. Assuming our project consist of making another blog, I choose images that sum up how I feel about technology. Since technology will only continue to advance what does that mean for humanity? Face-to-face communication is being replaced with contact through social media and reliance on it can be detrimental. I’m not saying robots will take over, but the way we depend on technology it seems we are the robots. I am not saying remove technology completely, the only way I can send this message is through a computer, but we should be able to distinguish if we need technology to improve life or just make us lazy. Anyway, below are a few attachments to some funny yet informing posts about media.

The first is a picture is represent the evolution of tech. Image

Second is a cute video I found on you tube showing how technology is becoming such an influential part of our lifestyle that it even changes our perspective of reality. The link is below:

And finally it only felt right, since essentially I’m talking about turning into robots, to have a song about robots. Also this song is really cool for all you techno/electro lovers.

-Well enjoy these little pieces of media and remember too much of a good thing isn’t good at all.

Top 5 Midterm Blogs & My Own XP

Well the midterm blogging process is complete and can I just say I had so much fun doing it. The topic I chose to write about was women in comics and how gender politics affect the way they are represented. Yes I know it sounds really complicated, but I had a great time covering the topic especially since I am a huge comic book nerd. When I was exploring my creative potential in creating my blog I really wanted to make it look like it was a modern day comic book with a dash of a feminist attitude. My favorite comic book character is Harley Quinn, so it was only natural of me to write about her. I also wrote a welcome to my blog post, but the Harley post is where I really had an opportunity to mix my ideal with my creation. I was going to make a screen-o-matic video, but the computer I was working on did not enable me to download the software, so instead I did an old fashion time line of her de or e-volution. I also tried to leave my final words as a trigger sentence of thought. I wanted the visitors of my blog to really participate on an intellectual level when reading my blog, and I hope that is what the people reading this encounter when they visit it. Overall I do not think I will abandon my blog entirely, as most people do when they are finished with the midterm blog, because it was just too much fun to create.

How I felt after seeing my accomplishment.
How I felt after seeing my accomplishment.

SO after seeing how awesome my blog came out (my personal opinion), I wanted to review the top five blogs from my other classmates.

Let’s begin the countdown

NUMBER 5:Casual I I Cinephile <http://soggyburrito.wordpress.com/>

This was a cute approach to being a movie reviewer. I enjoyed it mostly because it was an atypical was of discussing some of the best and worst movies.

NUMBER 4: The evolution of Music <http://musicevolving.wordpress.com/>

This blog was insightful to the evolution of music, but my only negative opinion is how strongly they showed blues and not escalating it to other forms of music.

NUMBER 3: Discover Jersey City <http://discoverjerseycity.wordpress.com/>

Now this blog is discussing how the little town of Jersey city has a lot to offer. They do not just focus on one aspect, but include things from restaurants to hotels. Yes, there was A LOT to read, but I encourage anyone voicing their opinions.

NUMBER 2:Social Samaritains <http://socialsamaritans.wordpress.com/>

This page is too adorable. They have an equal amount of text, pictures, and compassion for others trying to attain recognition through media.

NUMBER 1: DIY Music <http://doityourselfmusic.wordpress.com/>

The post on DIY music are both informative and entertaining. It encourages artist everywhere to really learn about the tools they are using to get ahead of the game. The use of diverse videos and step by step directions are really helpful to anyone trying to learn the niches of the equipment used for anyone who wants to be involved in music.

Scream-O-Matic

First time using screan-o-matic did not seem difficult at all. The only issue I came across was trying to figure out how I am going to communicate with my audience without sound. See I was in a library when doing this project, I don’t have a Mac and every time I have access to one it is in a place where being quiet is appreciated. In order for me to be respectful I had to keep my mouth shut, but I was not sure how to narrate my opinion to the world without speaking. Suddenly an idea hit me, I’ve seen it many times before in other videos, why not type while recording? It sounded like a great idea except I’m not the fastest typist and the video would have taken three years to watch (of course an exaggeration, but you get the idea).

So typing while recording did not go so well, instead I had typed out the text in advanced and scrolled down to go along with the video. It is still longer than I anticipated and yes using my voice would have been simpler, but this was a great challenge to test myself with. Overall it was an alright experience, but I believe I can do the same if I made a powerpoint and let it go in slideshow mode.

Well the link to my video is below, enjoy.

Ahead with the Header

For those who follow me they may notice my new header. I tried to keep it all in the same theme, obviously one being related to bulletin boards. My challenge was to use pixlr to merge images together in order to make my own. Was it difficult? YES. My worst fear is that it looks a bit too amateur. The most difficult thing I had to do was not only find images that fit my theme, but this whole adding and removing layers made the experience with pixlr a tad hair pulling. Now don’t think I didn’t have any fun, it’s just when trying to make an image that says “Hey I’m a bulletin board” is the task that this became boring. I would return to pixlr to maybe warp images of people into well something well like this:

(Thank you Kim and Kayne for your help in explaining my future pixlr plans)

I realize now that pixlr is evil! Yup. I can make pretty images ugly; that’s all it’s good for pure maniacal entertainment. I just hope that my followers (or those who are thinking of following me) appreciate the header because it does have that me factor that my previous header was missing, which is probably the one nice thing I can say about this experience. Overall I think pixlr is good for amateurs , like so obviously me, so that they can tell themselves I’ll stick to the copy and paste method.

Entering the World of Blogging

Hi everyone! My name is Luz and this is my first ever blog. This spring semester I am enrolled in a digital media class and one of my challenges are to enter the world of blogging. Since this is my first attempt I was extremely confused, but thanks to the tutorial videos my professor provided the class with I think I’ll be just fine. Since this is a class blog I tried to steer towards the feeling of being in a class rather than it being all about me; trying to balance the two was the difficult part. I figured to call it the bulletin board since I will be constantly updating it with school related topics. No blog is complete without a post so let’s mark this down as the first of many.
